In 2004 WWA completed Phases One and Two of this 475 acre restoration named the Mequon Nature Preserve, located in Ozaukee County. A former crop field that has been extensively tiled, re-contoured and drained, this project has been a real challenge due to topography and sources of hydrology. WWA Executive Director/ Project Director Jeff Nania begins the process of tile removal on site in January, 2004 shown in the picture above.
This photograph shows the continuation of the restoration project and removal of drain tiles in late winter of 2004.

The picture shown above here in May of 2004 is an area that was formerly a crop field and had standing water for months. This parcel is located just south of Stauss Woods and has seen quite a bit of bird activity.

This photograph is of a vernal pond in the woods which, prior to the restoration was only a few feet wide has now expanded to over an acre in size.

The Wisconsin Waterfowl Association was recognized at the Mequon Nature Preserve's Dedication ceremony held during the summer of 2004.
