County: Columbia Acres to Restore: 200 The Pines project is located along the Wisconsin River. The project area is within the floodplain of the Wisconsin Rive making it ideal habitat for migratory birds and resident wildlife species. The wetland system is ˝ lowland forest and ˝ open drained wetlands. A few large ditches drain the site for agricultural use. The ditches will be modified and the historic stream will be reconnected allowing water to meander through the site saturating the wetland basins. This project will provide ideal wetland habitat for birds and allow for flood mitigation by allowing the wetlands to absorb flood waters once again. This project is located along CTY O in Newport Township, between HWY 16 and the Wisconsin River about 2 miles east of the intersection of Peterson Rd. and CTY O. |
