Project - Shoes

Project: Shoe’s
County: Dodge
Acres to Restore: 85

This site is located on an unnamed stream in Dodge County. The project will encompass 85 acres of wetland and 3/4 of a mile of stream restoration.

The goal is to restore the stream to its historic bed, improve the water quality and reconnect the relationship of the stream and adjacent wetlands. The objective is to provide more open water, bring historic hydrology to the wetlands and increase wildlife habitat.

The unnamed tributary has been straightened and deepened to drain the land for agriculture. The historic stream bed has been located and is intact throughout most of the site. We plan to plug and fill the ditch reconnecting the existing stream to its historic meander. The historic stream bed intersects the ditch at multiple spots. These areas will be graded and manipulated to allow reconnection with both stream bed and associated riverine wetlands. This will allow stream to interact with the wetland functioning as a complete system.

This project is located ˝ mile west of CTY SS on Chapel Rd in the town of Lowell
