Project - Squires Gold Course
Project: Squires Gold Course
County: Ozaukee
Acres to Restore: 120

The Squires Country Club was a golf course along Lake Michigan. This project will incorporate the entire acreage restoring the golf course to what historically was present, a mix of wetlands and uplands in the rolling terrain along Lake Michigan.

This project area is heavily tiled indicating the site once supported wetland communities in numerous areas. Currently the project area is open, manicured grass with evergreens throughout. Multiple ponds can be found on site and act as retention areas for water from the drain tiles. Other features are characteristic of a golf course, sand traps, pockets of un-manicured cool season grasses and artificial terrain modifications. A three acre lowland woods is located in the north central portion of the site.

We anticipate removing all drain tiles and re-contouring portions of the landscape to restore the diversity of habitat once found here. Locating, exposing and returning the hydrology to the hydric soils will be the primary focus. This will result in historic wetlands functioning properly and integrating with the adjacent matrix of habitats.

This project is located off CTY P about 5 miles north of the city of Port Washington in the town of Belgium. The site is located on CTY P between I-39 and Lake Michigan.
