Green Bay-Area Goose Banding Opportunity!

Green Bay-area goose banding efforts are scheduled for June 27, 28 and 29. If you would like to volunteer this year, please review the documents below. There is a volunteer agreement, bird banding waiver and a document that describes the Personal Protective Equipment that will be required due to HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza) guidelines .

Please complete the bird banding waiver and volunteer agreement prior to banding. There will be some copies available the days of banding, but if you are able to complete the forms in advance they can be emailed to Steve Burns (Wisconsin DNR) at steven.burns@wisconsin.gov. Otherwise, please bring the completed copy with you to the banding.

Everyone banding is expected to wear the PPE described. If you only want to herd or corral birds you do not need to wear a full rain suit. Do wear rubber boots as we will sanitize between sites. If you want to handle birds do wear a complete rain suit (jacket and pants) as we will sanitize those articles of clothing between sites. We will provide masks and safety glasses as well as the solution to sanitize between sites.

DNR will follow up with volunteers with exact dates, times and meeting location as the schedule firms up.

If you’re interested in participating, please let our Volunteer Banding Coordinator, Sarah Orlofski, know so we can track participation by WWA volunteers. RSVP to Sarah at Sarah.Orlofske@uwsp.edu.
